La Asociación Peruana de Empresas de Inteligencia de Mercados fue formalmente inscrita y constituida el 18 de agosto de 1978. Conocida como una asociación sin fines de lucro, que agrupa a las empresas de investigación de mercados y de opinión pública. Tiene por finalidad el fomento, desarrollo, protección y defensa de la actividad de investigación de mercados en el Perú, así como la defensa de los intereses gremiales. Para los usuarios de la investigación la existencia de la APEIM es una garantía en la medida que se constituye en una instancia supervisora y dirimente en casos donde se produzcan controversias de índole técnica o metodológica entre una asociada y su cliente. Actualmente, la organización cuenta con 21 asociados ampliamente reconocidos en el medio. Asimismo, a nivel orgánico, cuenta con 5 miembros, los cuales se renuevan cada dos años.
